Reinforced Concrete Foundations

Steel fibre reinforced concrete pour - Allied Concrete

Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete is easy to place, faster to build and proven to work!

Allied Concrete proudly offers steel fibre reinforced concrete that provides significant savings over traditional flooring systems or complicated designs.

READY Floor concrete arrives on site pre-reinforced with no additional mesh required as fibres are added to the mix during batching at the plant. This saves significant time and disruption on site for contractors and by eliminating traditional steel mesh reinforcing, costs associated with the foundation and slab are often 20% lower than a traditional system.

Steel fibres in READY Floor are evenly distributed throughout the concrete, resulting in every part of your floor and foundation being actively reinforced: at the top layer, in the core, at the sides and at the bottom. No matter what forces are working on your floor, no matter how strong they are, the fibres are always in exactly the right place to do their job.

Benefits:

READY Floor has many benefits which all contribute to considerable savings, improved efficiency, and a more sustainable approach to construction. Here’s how:

  • Faster build time — With READY Floor, there’s no need for additional mesh reinforcement, reducing preparation time and accelerating the overall construction process.
  • Fewer bookings — Traditional concrete slabs require multiple site visits for steel mesh installation, inspections and pouring. READY Floor simplifies the process by combining reinforcement and pouring into a single step, leading to fewer interruptions
  • BRANZ appraised and Codemarked — READY Floor meets New Zealand’s strictest building standards, ensuring compliance with the New Zealand Building Code. CodeMark certification means no consent hold up, giving you confidence in the product’s reliability.
  • No need for traditional mesh — Unlike conventional steel reinforced concrete, READY Floor integrates steel fibres directly into the mix, eliminating the need for steel mesh.
  • Green product — READY Floor incorporates steel fibres made from approximately 80% recycled product, reducinged the carbon footprint compared to traditional mesh solutions. By lowering CO₂ emissions and energy consumption by up to 12%, it supports more sustainable building practices.

Applications:

READY Floor can be used on any lightly loaded ground slabs when building on 'good ground', including:

  • Residential floor slabs
  • Shed floors
  • Small commercial buildings
  • Car parks
  • Warehouses

READY Floor installation process

Installing READY Floor is a fast and efficient process that ensures a durable reinforced concrete foundation with minimal site disruption. The steps include:

  1. Ground preparation — The first step is to clear the site of any organic material and dig the footings according to specifications. Once excavated, the hard fill is compacted to create a strong and stable base for the foundation.
  2. Formwork & plumbing — The perimeter of the slab is boxed using pegs and a shuttering system to hold the concrete in place during the pour. Before proceeding, plumbing must be installed, with vertical pipes secured using stakes and horizontal pipes either blind-ended to the boxing or left protruding as required.
  3. Hardfill trimming & DPM installation — The hardfill is trimmed and shaped to a 45-80 degree angle following NZS 3604 guidelines. A Damp Proof Membrane (DPM) is laid over the prepared surface to prevent moisture ingress, and an insulation layer is added if underfloor insulation is specified.
  4. Supplementary steel placement — While READY Floor contains steel fibre reinforced concrete, additional perimeter bars are placed where required, ensuring 75mm ground cover and 50mm external cover for extra reinforcement.
  5. Concrete mixing & delivery — At Allied Concrete’s batching plant, steel fibres are pre-mixed into the concrete, eliminating the need for mesh. The reinforced concrete is tested for consistency and pumpability before being delivered to the site, ready for immediate pouring.
  6. Concrete pouring — READY Floor is poured in a single-stage process, allowing for a monolithic foundation and concrete flooring. The concrete is vibrated evenly, screeded to height and bull floated perpendicular to the screed for a smooth finish.
  7. Finishing & curing — The surface is finished to a ‘two off’ high polish to prevent fibre exposure. Cutting is done as per specifications using a soft-cut early entry saw or equivalent to minimise shrinkage cracks. The slab is then cured following best practices to maximise strength and durability.

This process ensures READY Floor provides high-performance and durable concrete flooring in New Zealand.

Savings:

Easily save 20% or more when compared to traditional 3604 floor and foundation - that’s thousands!! Savings include:

  • Less time spent on ordering, uploading, cutting, tying steel, mesh and chairs.
  • One pour - no separate foundation and floor bookings
  • Can be poured straight from the chute if access permits
  • No internal boxing and pegs if the foundation is READY Floor
  • Faster - improve productivity from existing resources.

A Green Product

READY Floor uses steel fibres that consist of approximately 80% recycled material. Compared to standard mesh solutions, READY Floor allows you to reduce your Co2 emissions and energy consumption by up to 12%.

BRANZ and CodeMark

READY Floor is BRANZ appraised and is Australasia's only CodeMark certified steel fibre reinforced flooring system.

CodeMark certification means building consent authorities will accept READY Floor as complying with the New Zealand Building Code (when used as specified in the CodeMark certificate). You will still need to apply for building consent; however, the CodeMark means there will be no delays at the council.
